I Cantori di Carmel presents Songs of Destiny

Songs of Destiny – I Cantori di Carmel's Spring Concerts

Don’t miss I Cantori's Sunset Center debut! Experience Monterey’s homegrown symphonic chorus and orchestra of local and regional musicians—rooted in community, made for everyone.

Join I Cantori di Carmel for a powerful evening of choral masterworks as they make their long-awaited debut at Sunset Center. Songs of Destiny offers a transcendent mix of Romantic and Impressionist music by Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, and Vaughan Williams. Woven through these works is a luminous thread of fate, hope, and renewal—from Brahms’ Schicksalslied and Nänie (set to texts by Hölderlin and Schiller), to Ravel’s radiant choral gems, Debussy’s rarely heard Printemps, and Vaughan Williams’ Toward the Unknown Region, based on a poem by Walt Whitman.

Calling all lovers of music, poetry, and a good story—this one’s for you. It’s a rare treat to experience the words of great poets so vividly set to music. And for Debussy fans, there’s a rare treat: the original Printemps was lost in a fire shortly after it was composed. What you’ll hear is a reconstructed version for chorus and orchestra—realized according to Debussy’s original vision and performed in this form for only the second time.

More than just a concert, this is a milestone moment for Monterey County’s own homegrown symphonic chorus and orchestra. For over 40 years, I Cantori has brought great choral music to the Peninsula. Under the direction of Music Director Daniel Henriks, the chorus has grown into a professional-caliber ensemble, now performing alongside its own symphonic orchestra of local and regional musicians. This spring, they take the stage at Sunset Center, and your presence helps celebrate that achievement.

Step away from the everyday, bring someone you love, and experience the joy of live music made right here in your community. New to classical music? You’re in the right place. Come as you are and we’ll welcome you with great music and a seat saved just for you.
