This will be the 32nd anniversary of the Carmel Art Festival, held in Carmel-by-the-Sea since 1993. 60 plein air artists, a veritable list of all-star winners of the past 30 years, arrive in Carmel on May 16 and will be painting all over the Monterey Peninsula for 2 days. Their paintings will be displayed, judged and sold on a "buy now" basis in Devendorf Park starting Friday, May 19. Collectors come from all over the country to purchase these new paintings.
Friday night, May 16, 6-9 p.m. is a special VIP event by invitation only for collectors and past buyers. Wine and small plates will be served at the event. Live entertainment. A portion of Devendorf Park will be fenced off for this event.
Saturday, May 17, once again live entertainment starts at 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. There will be some youth art displayed and children of attendees can participate in a "kids make art" day; plus other programs to be announced. Posters from this and other years can be purchased.
Sunday, May 18, some of our artists will participate in a morning Quick Draw where artists will paint a new painting in 2 hours, bring it back to Devendorf Park for judging and to be sold.
Sculpture-In-the-Park: Throughout the weekend, galleries in Carmel-by-the-Sea will have an opportunity to display sculpture in Devendorf Park. And local well known sculptor Steven Whyte will work on an oversized sculpture of a well known figure, with the big reveal on Sunday who this person is.
