Casa Serrano is a beautiful historic adobe with a full kitchen located at 412 Pacific Street, walking distance from Downtown Monterey, offering a unique opportunity to step back in time. It has street parking and a two-story parking lot across the street.
Built in 1843 and saved from demolition in 1959, Casa Serrano is a venue rich in history and charm. Available for special event rentals, this historic adobe has served many purposes over the years, including as a home, schoolhouse, and Italian restaurant. It has the Grand Sala meeting room for up to 50 people, as well as a full kitchen and beautiful garden area.
Casa Serrano holds a special place in California's early history, having served as one of the first schools after the U.S. flag was flown over the Custom House in 1846. The venue's connection to Monterey's past, along with its historic significance, makes it an extraordinary choice for gatherings. The Monterey History and Art Association’s decorative arts collection, featured in Casa Serrano, includes handcrafted pieces that belonged to some of Monterey's first families. The collection highlights unique objects, including a grand piano shipped around Cape Horn in the early 19th century, and period furnishings such as a Federal secretary and a John Belter chair. The Porter Bedroom contains the furniture of John T. Porter, a Civil War customs collector in Monterey appointed by President Lincoln. This historical ambiance adds a unique element to events hosted at Casa Serrano.
