Fort Ord National Monument

A former military base, the Fort Ord National Monument offers 83 miles of trail on approximately 7,200 acres. The recreational area is open from dawn to dusk for hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, wildlife/wildflower photographers and nature enthusiasts. Experience narrow single track trails through valleys, grassland hills or generous winding trails through oak woodlands and maritime chaparral. Animals that can often be seen in this coastal region include black tailed deer, turkeys, bobcats, coyotes, badgers, red tailed hawks, Canadian geese, California quail, gopher snakes, coast horned lizards, golden eagles, and mountain lions.
