Castroville is a tiny agricultural town with a big heart. Just a few miles inland from Monterey Bay and surrounded by robust fields of artichokes sits Castroville, known as the "Artichoke Capital of the World." Visit The Giant Artichoke Restaurant to taste locally grown artichokes in every possible way and get your photo taken with the giant artichoke itself! For more of Monterey County's favorite thistle, visit Pezzini Farms for amazing produce and unique bites including artichoke cupcakes. You can also tour the farm with local tour operator Ag Venture Tours on select days.
Artichoke Festival
Don't miss the biggest veggie event on the central coast! Castroville hails the violet-thistled veggie with the Castroville Artichoke Festival at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center, attracting foodies, farmers and folks who like to celebrate! The festival includes a first-rate parade, cooking demonstrations, wine tasting, a car show and lots of arts and crafts vendors. A highlight of the event includes choosing the Artichoke Queen, following the footsteps of the first queen crowned in 1948–Marilyn Monroe!
