There is never a bad day cycling in Fort Ord National Monument - each season brings new beauty to life! Since the transition from an active army base to a multi-use recreational open space in the 1990s, Fort Ord’s 86+ miles of trails offer a unique car-free bike riding experience that is treasured by locals and visitors alike.

Unlike many parks, For Ord is friendly to bikers and equestrians. As you ride, you might see road riders, mountain bikers and gravel cyclists rolling through the 28,000 undeveloped acres. Fort Ord is blessed with dozens of micro-climates and abundant native plants and wildlife, including oak woodlands, coastal chaparral and sage.

One trailhead that offers easy access is at 8th Avenue and Gigling Road in Seaside, where you can access paved and dirt roads along with miles of user-friendly flowing singletrack. Countless loops can be created from that entry point, and this handy Bureau of Land Management map will get you started.

If a guided ride is more your speed, join VineCycle Tours for an e-bike tour that hits all the Fort Ord highlights. Saddle up on a high-quality, specialized mountain bike and ride a 12-mile loop on dirt and paved roads that take guests deep into this vast open space. We pause along the way to highlight native plant and animal life and the celebrated military history spanning 1917-1994. Bikes, helmets, snacks and water are provided.

"We started our e-bike touring business because cycling is our favorite way to see the sites and learn about new places. We share this love of bicycles with our guests while having fun, getting exercise, enjoying the outdoors and meeting new people"
